When I started this project I made a promise that the end result would be me sitting on a beach in a warm country feeling great in my first bikini and drinking a cocktail. Celebrating my 30th birthday in style!

Sadly, due to very exciting family circumstances, I won’t be able to travel abroad around my birthday. At first I was super disappointed as I rarely set goals, especially such nice ones, for myself but then I realised it gave me the opportunity to mark the end of this project in a very special way.

Throughout the year the sheer amount of support I have received has been astounding – so many of you feel the same and while that has been great in pushing me forward and making me feel less alone on dark days, it’s also quite sad. It hurts that so many of us are feeling this way about our bodies. It sucks that with everything else that goes on in our lives and the world we have to carry this pain with us too. I think we should stop. I think we need to all start loving our bodies so that the young people coming after us don’t have to deal with it either.

So for my 30th birthday celebration I am setting anyone that wants to join me in saying no to body shame a challenge. On the 6th of December at 2pm I want you to run into the sea in a bikini. Yes, that’s right. The 6th of December is the middle of winter and yes the sea will be fecking freezing but it wouldn’t be a challenge if it was easy.

This year has been extremely difficult and my journey with my body is far from over but I want to enter my 30’s feeling exhilarated and having purpose and I would like as many of you to join me as possible.

I will be doing my dip in the sea in Brighton. Anyone that wants to join me there you can let me know here. We will be popping to a pub after for hot food and lots of rum to get us back to a normal body temperature!

Anyone else that would like to accept the challenge but can”t get to Brighton feel free to join the event anyway and post pictures or videos of your dip whenever you can.

It’s a far way from a cocktail on a warm beach but I hope you agree, it’s going to be one hell of a celebration.
